चिनी वोल्वो, किंगलॉंग सेरिटा. बेस्ट उपक्रमासोबतच एस. टी. त ही फ़सलेला एक प्रयोग.

आपल्या महाराष्ट्र एस टी ने आपल्या "शिवनेरी" या वातानुकूल आराम सेवेसाठी काही खाजगी बस वाहतूकदारांकडून या चिनी वोल्वो बसेस भाडे तत्वावर चालवायला घेतल्या होत्या. त्यातल्याच एका बसचे मी टिपलेले हे चित्र. चिनी वस्तूंच्या "चले तो चांद तक नही तो बस शाम तक" या ख्यातीनुसार या बसेसने पण लवकरच मान टाकली. मुंबई - पुणे मार्गावर घाटात या बसेस धापा टाकायच्यात.

आपल्या एस. टी. ने स्वतःच्या मालकीच्या फ़क्त वोल्वो आणि स्कॅनियाच घेतल्यात, या चिनी बसेस नाही त्यामुळे खाजगी कंत्राटदाराला "या बसेस नको" हे सांगून एस. टी. लवकर मोकळी झाली. पण मुंबईच्या "बेस्ट" (BEST Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) या उपक्रमाने तर या चिनी गाड्या स्वतःसाठी खरेदी केलेल्या होत्या. शहरातले छोटे छोटे चढ चढतानासुद्धा या गाड्या दमत असत. कांजूरमार्ग वरून आय आय टी पवईकडे जाताना गांधीनगरचा चढ या गाड्या कसाबसा चढत. त्या चढावावर बेस्टचीच एखादी साधी गाडी (लेलॅण्ड व्हायकिंग) हिला लीलया ओव्हरटेक करून जात असे.

पुढच्यास ठेच मागचा शहाणा या न्यायाने ठाणे महापालिका परिवहन (TMT) आणि नवी मुंबई महापालिका परिवहन (NMMT) शहाणे झालेत आणि त्यांनी आपल्या वातानुकूल सेवेसाठी आपल्या ताफ़्यात फ़क्त वोल्वो बसेसच खरेदी केल्यात.

MSRTC's Kinglong Cerita Shivneri

"Shivneri" is a brand name for Air Conditioned Luxury Bus service offered by MSRTC mainly on Pune - Dadar route. Though Shivneri service was also introduced between Thane and Pune, Borivali and Pune, Pune and Aurangabad; Dadar - Pune route was the main route served by this prestigious service.

MSRTC has the schedule of Shivneri service at every 15 minutes on this route. During weekends to clear the extra rush, MSRTC even planned clone bus for important timings at a 5 minutes delay after the regular service.

MSRTC initially introduced Volvo B 7 R buses (MH - 11 / T 92XX passing) as Shivneri buses. The colour scheme selected for this brand was sky blue. Later MSRTC hired a few buses (Mercedes, Cerita Kinglongs and Volvos) from private operators for this service.

This is one such bus. Kinglong Cerita bus hired from a private operator for this service. Kinglong Cerita bus is also known as "Chinese Volvo" because of its origin in China. This bus was also purchased in good numbers by BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) in Mumbai for its Air Conditioned city bus service.

But CERITA Kinglong buses failed miserably in their performance. Theses buses were failed to climb steep ghat section on the Mumbai - Pune expressway. (Their sisters serving in BEST failed to climb comparatively flatter inclines in Mumbai city, too.) Soon Indian transporters stopped providing patronage to these Kinglong Certia buses and these buses vanished from Indian roads, fortunately.

चिनी आणि जर्मन आजुबाजुला. आपल्या एस.टी. ने कधीकाळी हा चिनी व्होल्व्हो वापरण्याचा प्रयोगपण केला होता. पण "बेस्ट" उपक्रमाप्रमाणे हा प्रयोग इथेही चालला नाही. गंमत म्हणजे पुणे स्टेशन बस स्थानकावरील पुणे-दादर शिवनेरी च्या फ़लाटावर त्या दिेवशी एकही व्होल्व्हो नव्हती. एक किंगलॊंग आणि एक दोन आसांची मर्सीडीज बेंझ बस.

नागपूरच्या नावावर चा भारतीय रेल्वेतला आणखी एक विक्रम

आपल्या नागपूरच्या नावावर भारतीय रेल्वेत आणखी एक विक्रम नोंद केलेला आहे.

"सर्वात कमी अंतर कापणारी, दररोज धावणारी, पॅसेंजर गाडी"

१९७० च्या दशकापासून १९९४ पर्यंत "नागपूर - अजनी" अशी फक्त ३ किमी अंतर धावणारी पॅसेंजर गाडी होती. नागपूरच्या फलाट क्र १ वरून ही छोटीशी ३ डब्यांची गाडी सकाळी १० वाजता सुटायची. अजनी यार्डात काम करणारे बहुतांशी रेल्वे कर्मचारी या गाडीत असायचेत. आम्ही कराडला जाण्यासाठी फलाट क्र. २ किंवा ३ (क्वचित ४ किंवा ५ ही) वर उभ्या असलेल्या महाराष्ट्र एक्सप्रेसमध्ये बसण्याच्या गडबडीत असायचो तर ही बया प्रतिष्ठेच्या फलाट १ वरून कोळसा एंजिनामागे झुकझुक करीत ऐटीत निघून जायची.

अजनी स्टेशनवर अगदी पूर्वेला (अजनीकडून मेडिकलकडे जाणार्‍या रस्त्यावर पूर्वेकडे जायला रस्ता पूल ओलांडल्यावर डावीकडे वळणार्‍या रस्त्याला लागून) एक छोटासा फलाट होता. अजनीला पश्चिमेकडे तेव्हा २ च फलाट होते. ही गाडी नागपूर स्टेशन सोडल्यानंतर १२ सिग्नलच्या पुलापासून (तोच तो मोक्षधाम जवळचा दगडी आर्च पूल) अनेक सांध्यांना ओलांडत औलांडत १० मिनिटांत हा ३ किमी चि प्रवास संपवून अजनी यार्डातल्या पूर्वेकडच्या या स्पेशल फलाटावर जात असे.

परतताना संध्याकाळी ५.४० च्या सुमारास हीच ३ डब्यांची गाडी त्याच रेल्वे कामगारांना घेऊन नागपूर मध्यवर्ती रेल्वे स्थानकावर परतत असे.

हिला स्वतःचे ३ जनरल डबेही नसत. पहाटे नागपूरला ५.५५ ला येऊन रात्री १०.१० पर्यंत निवांत विसावा घेणार्‍या सेवाग्राम एक्सप्रेसचे ३ जनरल डबे ही गाडी दिवसा हक्काने वापरत असे. डब्यांवर एस टी बसप्रमाणे खडूनेच नागपूर - अजनी - नागपूर असे लिहील्या जात असे.

तर अशी या विक्रमी, सगळ्यात कमी अंतर कापणार्‍या, नागपुरी गाडीची कहाणी.

पुणेरी व्यक्ती नागपूरचा लाडका राजा.

"सी बी एस २ का राजा"

MH - 12 / AQ सिरीजची टाटा बस. नागपूर सीबीएस - २ डेपो (सध्याचा वर्धमान नगर डेपो) चा राजा म्हणून.

MSRTC's Central Workshop, Dapodi, Pune is the workshop that builds coaches on TATA as well as Ashok Leyland Chasis, too. Annually, Dapodi workshop builds highest number of coaches as compared to coaches built by Central Workshop, Aurangabad and Central Workshop, Nagpur.

Nagpur and Vidarbha region is purely served by the buses built by Central Workshop, Nagpur. Though they get some additional buses built by Central Workshop, Nagpur.

This bus is from Nagpur CBS 2 depot (Now named as Vardhaman Nagar depot). It is written "सी बी एस २ का राजा". This must be the pet bus in CBS 2 depot in Nagpur division of MSRTC. Every depot has such pet buses that are maintained with extra efforts.

मध्यवर्ती कार्यशाळा नागपूरने बांधलेल्या काही निम आराम गाड्यांपैकी एक.

एकेकाळी हिने नागपूर - पुणे मार्ग गाजवला असेल.

काय ते वैभव होते ना,  या निम आराम गाड्यांचे !

Converted Semi Luxury bus into an ordinary bus.

MSRTC converts its fleet of Semi Luxury buses into a fleet of ordinary buses after these Semi Luxury buses complete their run of 2,50,000 to 3,00,000 kms. Many a times, the comfortable seats in semi luxury bus are kept unchanged in ordinary bus, thereby giving the advantage for passengers about comfortable semi luxury travel in ordinary ticket rate. In next modification, the seats also get modified to ordinary seats.

Central Workshop, Nagpur had built very few Semi Luxury buses.

I remember, they built it in MWY 98XX series.

Then CWN built semi luxury buses in MH - 31 / 90XX series.

The next series CWN built semi luxury buses was MH - 31 / M 95XX

and MH - 31 / M 99XX.

Then CWN built semi luxury buses in MH - 31 / W 94XX series.

Later it was found that CWN built semi luxury buses in MH - 31 / AP 91XX series, MH - 40 / N 83XX and 84XX series.

This is one of the converted Semi Luxury buses.

सप्तगिरी एक्सप्रेस livery

 चेन्नई आणि तिरूपती दरम्यान धावणा-या सप्तगिरी एक्सप्रेस गाडीच्या रंगसंगतीला मॅचिंग असलेले अरक्कोणम शेडचे एंजिन.

चेन्नईवरून सकाळी ६.२५ ला निघणारी आणि भाविकांना सव्वातीन तासात १४७ किमी अंतर कापून तिरूपतीला सकाळी ९.४० ला पोहोचवणारी, एखाद्या भाविकाने दर्शनाचे बुकिंग केले असल्यास दिवसभर त्याला भगवान गिरीबालाजी, आई पदमावतीच्या दर्शनासाठी मोकळीक देणारी आणि परतीच्या प्रवासात संध्याकाळी १८.१० ला तिरूपतीवरून निघून रात्री २२.०० वाजता चेन्नईतल्या भाविकाला त्याच्या घरी परत सोडणारी ही अतिशय सोयीची गाडी.

ही गाडी दक्षिण रेल्वेची अतिशय लाडकी गाडी नसल्यासच नवल होते. मध्य रेल्वेच्या लाडक्या डेक्कन क्वीन प्रमाणे या दक्षिण रेल्वेच्या या लाडक्या गाडीसाठी विशेष रंगसंगती, विशेष कोचेसचा रेक हे सगळे लाड होतेच.

आता सप्तगिरी एक्सप्रेसची ही विशेष रंगसंगती इतिहासजमा झालीय आणि अरक्कोणम शेडचे हे WAM 4 एंजिनही. उरल्यात त्या आठवणी.

Sapthagiri Liveried WAM 4

Southern Railway's Arakkonam shed is one of the prominent electric loco sheds in S. R. It used to hold WAM 4 type of locomotives, too.

The shed painted a few of its locomotives in "Sapthagiri Express" livery. Sapthagiri Express is a daily train that runs between Chennai and Tirupati at very convinient timings for devotees in Chennai. The train had special livery and Arakkonam shed had painted locomotives to match that livery.

Now Arakkonam has no WAM 4 loco left in its fleet. Its WAP 4 locos haul prestigious Super Fast trains like Grant Trunk Express and Tamilnadu express.
